Please change the picture on this site. It is oppressive to Muslim women to choose a sad looking picture like this. There ARE other images out there that can be shown. Also, women all over the world face oppression. It is not only inherent to Muslim women. Plzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Benny,
I would rather want you to plead with the mullahs who oppress their women so much so that the picture in this site look much better when you compare the oppressed Muslim women in real life.
Read this blog continuously and you will know what I mean.

yes,i know what you mean,i only hope that women will
finally undesrtand why they are facing this situation
first because of man stupidities and secondly for the own stupidities:Allah have give to both men a women a brain
but we surely never use it,we keep beeing their slave because we choose to be their slave,so why we complaining that they treat use as slave,we have opportunity to change things but do we realy want to change anything?

This really pisses me off! Not only are men using Islam to enslave women to fulfill their fantasies of how they want to live or think women should live, but also their own families are doing it! I am so tired of the hypocrites who call themselves muslims. So far I have lived in Medina, UAE, and Yemen and I have never found one man to not be a hypocrite in the name of Islam at least a little. Give me just one man who does not watch movies or music videos with nudity and at the same time expects his wife and children to cover with the veil. Give me just one man who does not chew qat or smoke or drink or look at or fantasize about women. I have to congradulate men for the total defeat of women all over the world. We will be fighting for equality and respect until the day of the end.
I live in Oman though am not a local. I came here with my liberal thinking and feminist ideas for women’s equal rights hoping to influence some. However what I’ve seen so far is almost a lost cause. Though the local women have more freedoms than their neighbouring Muslim countries they are still supressed. They are required to wear the black abaya and burka but what’s unnerving is that the women are not fighting back. Like Mariam Abdullah mentions it can be the women themselves suppressing themselves and other women. They have been taught since very little on how they must behave and dress that they have come to accept their position in life as secondary citizens. I think as an outsider and a non-Muslim it is very hard to try and influence the local women about being equal. It would take themselves to rise up and fight back for equality. The suppression of women is from culture and not from religion. It is the men that have come up with different taboos to suppress the women so they can have the world to themselves. And Lena is right, the local men go to bars, drink alcohol and are womanisers. They are allowed four wives unfortunately so they immediately are permitted to have a roving eye to look for the next wife. So the first wife balances it out by spending his money, credit card and turning a blind eye to the womanising and immorality her husband is basking in.

I am western male muslim convert from New Zealand and find that it is not Islam that is the problem, but the combination of Arabic culture into islam and interpretation of treatment with regards to how woman are being treated. Arabic muslim woman and western muslim woman are treated in different ways based on cultural norms as opposed to Islamic tradition, however maybe I am wrong. But I believe it is the arabic male cultural mindset that should be looked at. I follow sunnah and hadith but still treat woman whether islamic, christian or other as I would like to be treated. Not every muslim man is a womaniser or does haram for the sake of it. As I was told once, do not judge islam by the muslims. The differentiation must be made between Islamic Faith and Arabic culture. I am a westerner, not an Arab and can make the distinction, but the arabs cannot.
