This is certainly the most disastrous of any wedding event that has been reported at this season in Assam.



April is the month of one of Assam’s biggest festival the Rongali Bihu, when most of the marriages are solemnized but for this couple it was a doomsday.



The bus carrying the groom’s party went straight down to a deep pond near Sarupeta in Barpeta District when the party was headed towards the bride’s home thereby killing 51 people on the spot, all drowned in the pond.



The groom however survived but he lost 9 nephews, 4 sisters and his brother: the accident happened all of a sudden when amidst the heavy shower and maddening wedding songs sung by the party, one of the wheels suddenly slipped and headed to the pond.
